PAYABLES & PAYROLL ACCOUNTANT
General Purpose
Our client, a reputable organization in the Retail business with operations across East Africa, is looking to hire a Payables & Payroll Accountant to manage and maintain accurate records of company payables and ensure the timely, accurate processing of payroll.
Location: Nairobi - Westlands | Salary: Ksh. 90,000 (gross)
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end accounts payable processes, including invoice verification, matching, posting, and reconciliation.
- Ensure timely payment to suppliers and service providers per the agreed-upon payment terms.
- Review vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain up-to-date records of supplier accounts and aged payables reports.
- Liaise with procurement and stores departments to verify goods received and services rendered.
- Prepare monthly accounts payable reconciliations and schedules.
- Ensure VAT and withholding tax are properly applied and recorded for all vendor payments.
- Process monthly payroll for all staff, ensuring accuracy and adherence to timelines.
- Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts.
- Ensure statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, etc.) are correctly calculated and remitted within stipulated deadlines.
- Maintain accurate employee records, including salary changes, benefits, and deductions.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of payroll information.
- Prepare and submit all payroll-related statutory returns (PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, NITA Levy, HELB, etc.).
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documents and explanations.
- Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting as it relates to payables and payroll.
- Recommend and help implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Maintain and update the accounting/payroll systems i.e., Sage 200
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA (K) or CIMA certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a senior financial position.
- Proficiency in Sage 200 is Mandatory.
- Knowledge of Kenyan tax laws.
- Advanced Excel skills.
